AQUI THEREMIN SHOWDOWN #3 In honor of Clara Rockmore This third installment in LA's only ongoing series of live Theremin performances will continue to prove that the Theremin is a very real, expressive, and musical instrument. Invented by Russian physicist Leon Theremin in 1918, it is played by moving one's hands in the air around the instrument - there is no physical contact. Although most people think of the sound of Theremin as horror B-movie soundtrack fodder from the 1950's, performers at the showdown will play melodies, harmonies, and songs from a variety of styles - jazz, classical, pop, soul, electronica. There will be a multi-Theremin jam session and some audience members may get a chance to try their hand. The only way to really appreciate all this is to see, in person, Theremin played by musicians who respect and love this very special and unique electronic instrument.
